Before accepting a settlement, you should read the policy, and understand what you are entitled to. Get your own quotes to make sure the amount being offered is fair and realistic.  Quotes that the insurance company obtains may not be the actual cost to you to repair, rebuild or replace damaged items. Be very clear about what you are settling – the whole claim including all additional benefits, or just a component of the claim.
