Take reasonable steps to minimise your loss. In addition you might be able to do a few more things to secure your property from further loss. Putting a tarp over your contents if they are exposed or moving it under shelter for example. Try and document this with photos, invoices and evidence of any directives from council or local emergency services.

In the meantime, you should be mindful of our rights to inspect your property or determine whether buildings or contents should be repaired, rebuilt or replaced and by whom.  Always get our consent before performing works.
